6 Adirondack RV Camping Tips for Happy Camping
The Adirondacks is one of New York State’s finest natural treasures. Here families can enjoy the natural beauty and plenty of fun outdoor activities including fishing, biking, hiking, swimming, and more. RV camping in the Adirondacks is a great family experience. If you are planning an Adirondack RV camping trip, here are a few RV hacks that will make you a happier camper!
- Get Creative with Storage
RV’s have a tendency to be low on extra space. When camping this can really become apparent. However, there are some great storage hacks to help you save space so you can enjoy clutter-free RV camping! For example, shoe racks are great for creating instant organized storage. You can use a shoe rack to hang over your shower curtain to hold all your showering essentials. Collapsible laundry baskets make ideal trash cans that can be easily stored away when no longer in use.
- Insulate your RV for Fall/Spring Camping
Camping in the Adirondacks is a lot of fun, but the weather can be a bit unpredictable. Fall and spring often mean chilly nights that can catch campers unprepared. One great temporary insulation for your RV is to place bubble wrap on your windows for insulation. Also, invest in vent cushions to help prevent heat from escaping.
- Wasp Repellent
Do you have a hard time keeping wasps from creating nests in your RV while camping? Unfortunately, wasps are attracted to propane and will turn the pilot light areas into their next home. However, this can be easily remedied! Cut up dog flea & tick collars and place them in the locations that the wasps seem to love. Wasps don’t like the smell and will choose to congregate elsewhere. You can also help to keep wasps at bay by turning your propane off whenever it is not needed.
- Conserve Water
When you have to fill up your RV with water and dump the black/gray water yourself, you will begin to be more conscious of your water consumption. Instead of letting the water run while washing dishes, fill up the sink with water and wash that way. Better yet, opt for grilling and paper plates and plastic utensils to cut down on the dishes that need to be washed. Who wants to be washing dishes while camping anyway? Limit your shower time and pack hand sanitizer for your RV to reduce how much water you use.
- Keep Cupboards Closed While in Motion
When traveling to your Adirondack camping destination, the last thing you want is for a cupboard to open and spill its contents everywhere. Luckily you can avert this disaster by using bungee cords to keep cupboards firmly shut.
- Kid-Proofing the RV
If you are camping with kids, things can be a bit hectic. Be sure to have travel cups handy for a spill-free rid to the campsite. If you don’t have a travel cup, you can use Press N Seal and a straw to turn a regular cup into a travel cup. Shower caddies with suction cups are also great for holding and organizing activities for the kids while in route to your destination. Also, don’t forget to pack a first aid kit for all those bumps and bruises that can occur while exploring the Adirondacks!
