Camping in the Summer? Here Are Some Tips and Tricks to Help Keep You Cool
Americans love their camping and the 2014 American Camper Report shows that 40.1 million Americans, or 14% of the entire population over six, camped in 2013. This trend shows no signs of stopping, especially now that summer is here and you have all the warm weather to enjoy!
However, some campers are a bit apprehensive to go on a family camping trip during the summer as the hot weather, while enjoyable, can be a bit too much. But don’t worry because, with these tips and tricks in mind, you’ll stay nice and cool, especially at those campgrounds near Lake George!
Make sure you eat
While we all know how important it is to drink water during the hot weather, some campers forget that it is just as important to eat enough. You will be burning a lot of calories during the day by having fun outside, so make sure to eat so you have enough fuel in your body.
Stay away from the fire
Even though it can be tempting to cook over the fire, your fire will just add a lot of extra heat to your already hot day. Plus, some campgrounds don’t allow fires to be built when it has reached a certain temperature outside, so make sure you bring food along that doesn’t need to be cooked. Sandwiches, macaroni salad made beforehand, and peanut butter are all great ideas to tide your family over.
Keep the ice at bay
Ice easily melts, so when you are buying your camping equipment, look for materials with gel inserts. Gel is very cooling and absorbs heat, and you can find it in pillows, tent mats, and even hats.
Try a hammack
You can even ditch the tent all together and choose a sleeping hammock! You’ll be able to easily set it up between two shady trees and sleep in the fresh, cool air. Just use your car to store your clothes and food, and you won’t have anything to worry about.
